The first-ever BIMSTEC Quiz marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) will be held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on Tuesday.
The BIMSTEC Secretariat hoped that events of this nature will help "foster fraternal spirits that are essential for meaningful regional cooperation to materialise, and that BIMSTEC Member States would be inspired to take steps to create more opportunities in future for young people in the region to come together and interact with each other as the Organisation evolves."
There will be seven teams competing in the Quiz comprised of two secondary school students representing each of the seven Member States of BIMSTEC – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
The Quiz Contest is being organised by the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & External Trade of Bhutan, and with the support of the Ministries of Foreign/ External Affairs of all the BIMSTEC Member States.
The Chief Guest at the occasion will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan, Dr. TandiDorji.
The Secretariat decided to organise an event of this nature in connection with BIMSTEC’s Silver Jubilee, recognising the importance of young people in driving regional cooperation and integration.
The Quiz will be streamed live on the Facebook page of the Bhutan Broadcasting Service at 10 a.m. Bhutan time on Tuesday 14 February 2023 (9.30 a.m. – India & Sri Lanka; 9.45 a.m. - Nepal; 10 a.m. – Bangladesh; 10.30 a.m. – Myanmar; 11 a.m. – Thailand).
