Biman Bangladesh Airlines is eyeing to resume its flight operation to Narita and New York routes this year.
In the concluding fiscal the national flag carrier has earned Tk 436 crore by transporting 22 lakh passengers to different destinations both home and abroad. During this time 80 percent of its flights were operated on time, claimed the airliner.
During 2022 despite various allegations of corruptions, the national flag carrier was able to expand its flight to Guangzhou and Toronto.
The newly appointed Biman Managing Director and CEO Shafiul Azim on Biman’s 51 founding anniversary told reporters, “We have a vision to become the top ten airlines in Asia. Next time we hope to reach the top three position. We have started our activities for that purpose. Our fleet is growing. We are taking all the decisions to recruit skilled pilots wherever needed, increase the skills of the cabin crews.”
Biman currently has 21 aircrafts in its fleet, of which 18 are its own. Each of these aircrafts is state-of-the-art. These have been added to the fleet in the last 14 years. It is said that this fleet of Biman is the newest and most advanced fleet in South Asia.
At present, Bangladesh has Air Service Agreement or flight service agreement with more than 40 countries. That is, Bangladesh can be directly connected with these countries by air. However, Biman could not use that opportunity yet. Currently the airline has flights to 20 international destinations.
Former Director of Biman Board of Directors Kazi Wahedul Alam told media, “The main task of market dominance is done by national carriers. We used to control 35 percent to 40 percent of the market here at Biman alone. That market has gradually fallen below twenty. Domestic and foreign airlines increased during this period, their number of flights also increased. Biman could not do the way foreign airlines have progressed.”
Mobile apps and loyalty club have been launched for the convenience of esteemed passengers on the occasion of 51st anniversary celebrations of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
