Bhutan interested to get bandwidth from Bangladesh

Bhutan has expressed interest in getting master trainers in graphic design and multimedia from Bangladesh to implement Internet Bandwidth and 'Build Bhutan' programs. The Bhutanese government expressed this interest during a courtesy call on the Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar, at his Secretariat office on Wednesday.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues of mutual interest, especially the proposal of the Prime Minister of Bhutan to import internet bandwidth from Bangladesh to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The proposal was made by the Prime Minister of Bhutan during his visit to Bangladesh last March. The meeting also highlighted the convenient rates of bandwidth. The issue of Bhutan-India-Bangladesh getting favorable transmission rates was highlighted.

Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology described the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan as very significant and historic. He highlighted Bhutan's cooperation in the great war of liberation and its role as the first country to recognize independent Bangladesh and expressed deep gratitude to Bhutan. He said the geography, history, heritage and way of life of Bangladesh and Bhutan are almost the same. He highlighted Bangladesh's progress in the development of digital technology in the country, saying Bangladesh is one of the few countries in the world in the development of digital technology. He mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visionary Digital Bangladesh program has set a precedent in the world. 

The minister said, "We have brought digital connectivity to every union in the country. As a continuation of the groundbreaking program adopted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 1996 to make mobile phones accessible to the general public, 160 million mobile phones are being used in the country. We are producing and exporting 5G mobile sets.”

The Ambassador spoke of his efforts to take the historic relationship between Bhutan and Bangladesh to a unique height in the days to come. He lauded the continued progress of Bangladesh, especially in the field of digital technology. He said Bangladesh is not only a tested friend of Bhutan, but also an important trading partner.
