Bhutan cuts Sustainable Development Fee for Bangladeshi tourists

In an effort to attract international tourists, the Kingdom of Bhutan has reduced its daily tourist fee of USD 200 to USD 15. The kingdom has taken the decision to boost the tourism sector. which is still struggling to recover after the pandemic Covid-19.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed it on Monday citing the Tourism Department of Bhutan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tourism Department of the government of Bhutan has said that the country has revised its policy for Bangladeshi tourists. 

According to the new policy, Bangladeshi tourists will have to pay only USD 15 as Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), which is the same as the fee levied on Indian tourists. The new fee will be effective from Sunday.

Earlier, Bangladeshis had to pay USD 200 per day to travel to Bhutan. As per new policy, Bangladeshi tourists can travel to Bhutan at low cost. Under the new policy, 15000 Bangladeshi tourists can travel Bhutan annually with the reduced fees of USD 15.

Previously, in June 2022, Bhutan raised the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) from 65 US dollar to 200 US dollars per person per night, which got revised to 100 US dollars per person per night from June 2023.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is a special relationship between Bangladesh and Bhutan. In recent years, the relationship has been strengthened under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
