BHTC rolls out ‘Made in Bangladesh’ products

$1265m investment expected by 2025

With the tagline ‘Made in Bangladesh,’ technology products of various world famous brands are being produced in the country’s Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City (BHTC) in Gazipur. 

These products include smartphones, dialysis machines for kidney patients and ventilators. Apart from export, these products are also available in the country's market, and are also creating employment.

BHTC Director (Finance) ANM Shafiqul Islam said that the eco-friendly high-tech park would accelerate the achievement of socio-economic prosperity in the country through development and growth of high-tech and IT-based industries. 

BHTC has been developed on 355 acres of land at Kaliakoir in Gazipur. A total of 70 local and foreign companies have invested here. Several companies have already started production.

The tech city at Kaliakoir in Gazipur is expected to have an amount of USD 1264.84 million in investments and create employment for 41,269 people by 2025. Until now, out of 70 companies, a few of them have already invested USD 120.76 million and created jobs for 460 people. 

According to high tech park information, the world famous mobile phone company Nokia has started production by setting up a factory with the allotment of five acres of land. UK based Vibrant Software and Union Group of Bangladesh Nokia are producing mobile phones in a joint venture.

A world class Kidney Dialysis Machine is being made in Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City. Work is also underway to make ventilation machines in this factory of Sonarbangla Foundation. 

Of these 70 companies, 12 organizations have started work. According to the law, if an organization is allowed, they have to start work within six months and the construction has to be completed within three years. Each institution gets permission to conduct operations for 40 years. However, due to not being able to work on time, leases of 15 companies to 16 companies have been canceled so far.

BHTC has received investments from Walton, Rangs, Fair Electronics, Vision, KDS, Nasdaq Technologies, Alien International, Business Automation, JR Enterprise and BJIT as well as various foreign companies. Companies are working in the park with high technology including mobile phone integration and production, optical cable, hardware, software, data center.
