The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have seized a consignment of the drugs such as Coden Maleate and Mancough DX syrup in Jhenaidah recently. Some of the smugglers were allegedly trying to carry those drugs, said the BGB sources of BGB 58 battalion at Moheshpur frontier in Jhenaidah.

Harmful and prolonged adverse reaction enriched two types of liquid drugs were entering Bangladesh from neighbouring India.

The contraband drugs are consumed for addiction by the young generation in India and other countries including Bangladesh. BGB officials said the drugs are more harmful than phensedyl and Dialux DC syrups.

BGB 58 Battalion Director Qamrul Ahsan said acting o a tip off, a contingent of BGB had conducted anti-smuggling drives in a Mehegoni orchard near Gopalpur Primary School in the bordering area of Moheshpur in the night of Tuesday. The border forces had seized 50 bottles of Codeine Maleate and 30 bottles of Mancough DX syrup. But none was found near the drugs.

The BGB official said Codeine Maleate is produced from codein phosphate and Mancough DX from the dextrometherphen hydrochloride. Those are used in India for treating cough and cold related diseases. As those creates intoxication and harmful for human being, they were declared banned in Bangladesh.

Earlier they had seized some bottles of Dialux DC syrup, manufactured in India which was banned in import and use in Bangladesh.
