Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted an operation in Chuadanga and recovered four gold bars weighing 40 lbs worth more than Tk 31 lakh. However, no one arrested in this regard.
On Thursday night, BGB members raided the Jhajhadanga border of Damurhuda upazila and seized these gold. BGB's Chuadanga-58 Battalion confirmed the matter to media in a press statement on Friday.
According to the release, BGB members came to know on the basis of secret information that the smugglers would smuggle a large consignment of gold to India through Jhajhadanga cemetery area of Damurhuda upazila.
On the basis of this news, BGB Chuadanga-6 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Khalequzzaman, PBGM, PSC along with allied members conducted an operation in Jhajhadanga cemetery area one kilometer inland from Main Pillar No. 78 on the zero line of Jhajhadanga border in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga. At that time, BGB members recovered 4 gold bars weighing 468 grams (40.12 lbs) from the side of the paved road in that place. The estimated value is Tk 31.29 lakh. The recovered gold bars have been deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury Office and BGB's Naik Md Rabiul Islam has filed a case as a plaintiff. Chuadanga-58 BGB Director Mohammad Khalequzzaman confirming gold smuggling issue said the gold was being smuggled to India via Bangladesh.
