Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized six gold bars and one motorcycle used for smuggling from bordering Macchpara area of Chuadanga on Wednesday.

However, the smugglers could not be detained. The seized gold bars weighed 870 grams.

The matter was confirmed through an e-mail sent to the journalists by Commander of Chuadanga-6 BGB Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Mohammad Zahidur Rahman.

The e-mail said BGB received a tip-off that a supply of gold will be smuggled to India through Hudapara Macchpara in Damuhuda upazila of Chuadanga. Acting on the tip-off, a team of BGB led by Hudapara BOP patrol commander, constable Mojnul Karim, took position near the border in Macchpara. Meanwhile, a suspicious individual was going towards the border on a motorcycle at around 1:45pm on Wednesday. When the BGB members instructed him to stop, he fled the scene, leaving the motorcycle behind.

The gold bars were recovered from inside the exhaust pipe of the bike.

The gold bars were sent to Chuadanga Treasury Office and a case was filed in this connection in the relevant police station.
