Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered one kg o crystal meth and 50,000 pieces of yaba pills during a drive conducted at Konarpara border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Wednesday.
Commander of BGB Cox’s Bazar Battalion 34, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Mashruki, confirmed the matter.
He said the drive was conducted in Konarpara border under Ghumdhum union in Naikhoncchari upazila of Bandarban on early Wednesday. The drugs were recovered at that time.
However, they were not able to detain anyone during the drive as the smugglers fled the scene, leaving the drugs behind.
Lt Coloner Mashruki said acting on a tip-off that a supply of drugs will be smuggled through Konarpara border in Ghumdhum union of the upazila on early Wednesday, a team of BGB conducted a drive there. At one point, they noticed two individuals are coming from Myanmar’s side and instructed the duo to stop. As a result, they noticed the presence of the BGB member. Before the BGB members could apprehend them, the smugglers fled into the darkness, leaving a small bag behind.
Later, a search was conducted on the scene and the bag left by the smugglers were recovered. One kg of crystal meth and 50,000 pieces of yaba were found inside the bag, said Lt Coloner Mashruki.
The recovered drugs are kept in BGB Battalion office, he added.
