BGB nabs 3 with LSD, other smuggled goods in Jhenaidah

The members Border guard Bangladesh of Mahespur Battalion (58 BGB) in Mahespur of Jhenaidah arrested three smugglers with a huge consignment of contra banned LSD drug and some other smuggled goods worth over Tk 7 crores when the smugglers were returning Bangladesh from India at about 1.30 am on Tuesday.

The detainees are Mohammad Reaz, 22, son of Safiqul Islam of Pipulbaria village in Moheshpur, Imam Hossain, 39, son of Jafar Sheikh of Kalachandpur village in Lohagora in Narail and Mobarak Ali, 26, son of Sher Ali of Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.

A press release from Mahespur Battalion (58 BGB) said acting on a tip off, a BGB team of Kusumpur BOP led by its Naib Subedar Abdus Salam raided a mango orchard owned by some Azad in the midnight on Monday near the border pillar number 61/7. When the smugglers with sacks reached near the BGB members, they challenged the smugglers. Sensing the presence of the BGB men, they started running towards Indian border leaving their sacks there. The efficient personnel of the BGB caught them and recovered seven bottles of LSD containing 100 milliliters each, mobile phones, sarees, cosmetics, medicines and other goods worth Taka 7,34,69,404 from their possessions.

The BGB said the legal procedure was going on to hand over the smugglers to police of Maheshpur police station.
