Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of 58 battalion in Moheshpur had detained a gold smuggler with five gold bars weighting 582.68 grams from a Chuadanga bound bus started from Dhaka on Sunday morning.
The detained was identified as Rabiul Islam, son of Moksed Ali of Gurdah village in bordering Moheshpur upazila.
BGB additional director Taslim Mohammad Tareq quoting the battalion director said acting on a tip off, a contingent of the border guards led by Havilder Syed Aminul Haque stopped the passenger coach of Hazi Paribahan (Dhaka metro Ga- 12-0001) at about 9 am on Sunday. They interrogated a suspected passenger Rabiul Islam.
Rabiul had admitted that he was carrying the gold bars without paying it’s taxes. Later the BGB men had seized the bars and some other equipment from under a seat of the bus.
The BGB authorities were preparing to hand over the detained after filing a case with bordering Moheshpur police station, the BGB additional director said.
