A workshop on ‘Imam training’ organised by Bangladesh Forest Research Institute (BFRI) was held in Chittagong.
A total of 105 imams of Chittagong city participated in the workshop held in the auditorium of Forest Research Institute on Wednesday morning. Each of them has been imparted practical knowledge about various technologies developed by BFRI As part of the training, there were techniques of high quality seed and seedling production, techniques of raising bamboo seedlings using kanchi-pen method, techniques of raising bamboo seedlings through tissue culture, techniques of raising palm seedlings, management of bamboo bushes, control of bamboo pests, insects and pests of seedbeds and forest trees and disease and pest control techniques, scientific identification of wood in simple methods, correct species identification considering soil quality, techniques for making wood products, proper wood cleaning techniques, low-cost chemical preservatives, strategies to extend the lifespan of bamboo and wood, at low cost Comprehensive ideas are given on various topics including techniques for building houses with durable cement bonded particle boards, techniques for making low-cost bamboo tiles, bamboo sheds in Panbara, practical life extension techniques for poles and planks.
BFRI Divisional Head Mahbubur Rahman was present at the event as the chief guest. Senior Research Officer Md. Zahirul Alam presided over the event under the Direction of Md. Mizanur Rahman, Field Investigator of Information, Technology and Training Branch.
At the end of the meeting, imams visited BFRI's technology park and 33 species of bamboo in Cambodia.
