Following the recent change in government, there has been a growing call for changes within the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF). However, the General Secretary of BFF, Imran Hossain Tushar, has firmly opposed any interference in the federation’s affairs.
Tushar has warned that any government intervention in BFF’s decisions could lead to a ban from FIFA. He emphasised that FIFA’s regulations strictly prohibit political interference in football federations, a rule that has led to suspensions in several countries.
Tushar urged everyone to take this matter seriously, stating, “Many people believe that political interference in BFF will only lead to its suspension. This is not the case. Politics is one domain, while BFF must operate independently. This is a crucial issue that is often overlooked. FIFA maintains regular contact with us and monitors our activities.”
He added, “Football is a beloved sport. Therefore, I urge everyone not to interfere with BFF and allow the federation to function autonomously. Our elections are scheduled for October 26, providing ample opportunities for democratic participation. If anyone has any concerns, they should come forward, vote, and facilitate a democratic transfer of power.”
Looking ahead, BFF has plans to organise several tournaments. Tushar expressed concern that any disruptions at this time would be detrimental, particularly for the players who could face financial losses. He stated, “We have five tournaments lined up, including a women’s team game. We have requested FIFA for an extension. If the season is suspended
for any reason, the players
will suffer as they won’t be
able to play. Therefore, it is crucial that the country’s football
remains unaffected.”
