The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) has unveiled a bold 21-point agenda to bring much-needed changes to the country's struggling film industry. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the BFDC premises yesterday.
Shamsul Alam, a veteran film producer, led the meeting as convener, with renowned director Shahin Sumon as the member secretary. They called for major reforms, including dissolving the current Film Certification Board and the National Film Award jury board.
The agenda covers various important points, including creating a central government server to manage the distribution and tracking of films. It also proposes introducing an e-ticketing system and renovating cinema halls across the country. The forum urged the government to establish honours and master's programmes in film studies to develop skilled future talents.
Additionally, the forum emphasized the need for a proper loan system for film projects and a transparent process for distributing government grants to real filmmakers. They also demanded an end to politically motivated film grants and called for creating fair, competitive film policies.
The press conference saw strong support from key figures in the industry, including actor Omar Sani, actress Shabnam Parvin, and many others. The manifesto was read by Shahin Sumon, who stressed the urgency of addressing the current challenges to ensure a better future for the country's film sector.
The event marked a united call for change, with hopes that this movement will bring about positive reform in Bangladesh's film industry.
