Additional Secretary Dilip Kumar Banik has taken over as the new Managing Director (MD) of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Himadri Barua, the Public Relations Officer of BFDC, confirmed this news to the media.
Dilip Kumar Vanik officially started his role on August 7. He replaces Nuzhat Yasmin, who was the acting MD before this change. The decision to appoint Banik comes after a significant protest by 17 film-related organizations on January 30. These organizations had three main demands, one of which was the removal of the then MD, Nuzhat Yasmin. The film community had accused Yasmin of irregularities, which led to calls for his removal.
The protests included a human chain organized by filmmakers and crew members to show their dissatisfaction and demand Yasmin’s removal from the position. The recent change in leadership at BFDC aims to address these concerns and bring a new perspective to the corporation.
With Dilip Kumar Banik now in charge, the film industry hopes for improved management and a more transparent approach to handling issues within the BFDC.
