The Bangladesh Film Directors Association (BFDA) recently hosted the much-anticipated BFDA Awards 2022-23 at Bangabandhu International Conference Center. This annual event, a hallmark in the Bangladeshi film industry, aimed to honour outstanding achievements in local cinema from the years 2022 and 2023.
The ceremony witnessed a dazzling display of talent and glamour, as industry veterans and rising stars alike gathered to celebrate the best of Bangladeshi cinema. "Poran" and "Priyotoma" emerged as the frontrunners of the evening, clinching multiple awards and affirming their status as cinematic masterpieces.
"Poran" was the spotlight in 2022, securing seven coveted awards, including Best Film and Best Director for Raihan Rafi. The film also showcased stellar performances by Shariful Razz and Bidya Sinha Mim, who were honored with the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively. Additionally, the music of "Poran" resonated with audiences, earning accolades for its talented composers and singers.
In 2023, "Priyotoma" took center stage, sweeping nine awards and captivating audiences with its compelling narrative and stellar performances. Director Himel Ashraf's vision earned him the Best Director award, while Shakib Khan and Shobnom Bubly were recognized for their outstanding portrayal of characters, winning the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, respectively.
The ceremony also acknowledged the growing influence of web films, with notable productions such as "Tan" and "Baba Someone's Following Me" receiving accolades for their exceptional storytelling and performances.
The BFDA Awards 2022-23 not only celebrated the achievements of filmmakers and artists but also paid homage to industry veterans through the presentation of Lifetime Achievement awards. The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries including Mohammad Ali Arafat, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Kazi Hayat, President of the Bangladesh Film Directors' Association.
