BEZA working relentlessly to ensure planned industrialization

Executive chairman tells view exchange meeting with ERF

BEZA Executive Chairman Shaikh Yusuf Harun said since starting operation in 2013, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) have been working relentlessly for ensuring planned industrialization.

He informed that factories of some fourteen industries will simultaneously go into commercial operation in the Economic Zones while at the same time the construction work of some 29 more factories will begin. 

Shaikh Yusuf Harun was addressing a view-exchange meeting organized jointly by the BEZA and the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) held at its auditorium at Paltan Tower in the capital on Sunday. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of the infrastructures of the factories on Wednesday.

Project Director of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) Abdullah Al Mahmud Faruk made a power-point presentation on the overall operations and progress of its activities.

The BEZA Executive Chairman informed that the commercial operations of four industries at the BSMSN including that of Asian Paints of India, Nippon of Japan, McDonald of Bangladesh and TK Group’s associate organization Samuda Construction Limited, would be inaugurated. Factory of Double Glazing would also be inaugurated at Srihotto Economic Zone.

Besides, the commercial operation of some nine industrial units at the private Economic Zones would also be inaugurated including that of the country’s biggest PVC factory. 

Harun informed that the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones of some 29 factories which have already attracted an investment of $610 million while $1,922.39 million more would be invested in those factories. 

The Premier will also inaugurate important infrastructures at the BSMSN, Jamalpur Economic Zone, Srihotto Economic Zone, administrative building of Sabrang Tourism Park, 20-kilometer long Sheikh Hasina Avenue at the BSMSN, 230-KV grid line and power substation. Apart from this, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of 50 MLD water treatment plant at the BSMSN.

Answering to a question, Harun said that they are now prioritizing khas lands for setting up economic zones adding that the industry owners would have to set up their industries at the economic zones through ensuring compliance. “We won’t compromise in this regard,”

Presided over by ERF President Sharmeen Rinvy, BEZA General Manager (administration) Hasan Arif and other high officials were present among others. ERF general secretary SM Rashidul Islam moderated the view-exchange meeting.
