Benapole Customs intelligence officials arrested a passport passenger along with 4 pieces of gold bars from the Benapole Check post International Passenger Terminal area on Tuesday.
The detained passport passenger Imam Hossain Jiban (24) is son of Abdul Halim of Chatanikandi village of Palong police station in Shariatpur district, whose passport number is 0536809.
Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, Assistant Director of Benapole Customs Intelligence and Investigation Circle said, receiving a tip-off that a passport passenger was going to India with a large amount of gold, a team of Customs Intelligence arrested him from the International Passenger Terminal check post.
During the search, Imam Hussain confessed that four pieces of gold bar were hidden inside his stomach in a special way. After the Abdominal x-ray 4 pieces of gold bars recovered, weighing about half a kilogram (464 grams). The value of the gold is over Tk 3.2 million. The seized gold has been deposited at Benapole Custom House. The arrested passenger was handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station with a case against him.
