Benapole customs authorities take steps to stop revenue evasion

Benapole Customs Authorities have taken a strict stand against the revenue evasion in Benapole Customs House and Port as to how to increase import and export trade between the two countries, and speedy unloading goods from trucks and rail Cargo. 

Benapole Customs House Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said in a zoom video conference with C&F agents and customs officials who used Benapole port on Sunday afternoon. Importers and C&F agents involved in revenue evasion will be blacklisted and their shipments will be 100% physically inspected. And those who are the famous importer could release their goods without examination through the product invoice "D" mark. 

The conference said that the consignment of chemical products will be released after testing in the chemical lab and the results will be released as per examination report.  

About the goods of the weight of the weighing scale in the port, it is said about the customs duty, the weight of each one in the port scale is the same, it must be taken into consideration, if anyone tries to gain interest from the weighing scale, and action will be taken against them.

Responding to various questions from traders, the commissioner said that on June 4, the National Board of Revenue had directed to launch side-door rail cargo through Benapole port. At the same time construction of railway terminal yard and instructions have been given. 

The import of the goods by rail cargo started through Benapole port in the second week of this month, and just within 12 days, the government earned Tk 30 crore, where 5oo hundred trucks of goods were imported daily by land through Benapole port. 

At present only 150 trucks of goods are being imported through this port due to Kovid-19. On the other side, in the Petrapole port area in Indian side at the Kalitala parking lot, a group of syndicate members are being forced to collect Rs.2000 per goods truck. 

However, the Benapole port handles trade worth TK. 30,000 crore a year with India. The National Board of Revenue has set a revenue target of Tk 5,000 crore for Benapole Customs House in the current financial year.

The traders demanded that Benapole-Jashore Highway 6 lanes and elevated trains from Benapole check post to Benapole Bazar be introduced, ICD be introduced and bypass road be made 4-lane. The commissioner said that these demands have already been passed and these projects will be implemented by ADB funding.

 In the video conference participated 100 traders from across the country, Additional Commissioner of Customs Dr.Neyamul Islam, Municipal Mayor Ashraful Alam Liton, Deputy Commissioner Shamimu Rahman, DC Parevaj Reza Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioners Uom Chakma, Akram Hossain, Kalyan Chakma, Kazi Murshida Khatun, and Revenue Officer Naeem Miron.
