Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) observed Mujibnagar day yesterday marking the formation of Bangladesh's first government that led the War of Liberation in 1971 paying floral tribute on the sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32.
Led by BCL president Al Nahian Khan Joy and the general secretary (GS) Lekhak Bhattacharjee and BCL DU unit GS Saddam Hossain, Dhaka North unit GS Saidur Rahman and South unit GS Jobair Ahmed were present there.
On 17th April of 1971, senior leaders of Awami League assembled at Baidyanathtala, a mango orchard, which was later named Mujibnagar, in Meherpur district, to form the provisional government of independent Bangladesh in the absence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was arrested and flown to Pakistan after Pakistan military had cracked down on the Bangalees on the night of March 25, 1971.
Al-Nahian Khan Joy said, "On the historic Mujibnagar Day, I pay homage to the four national leaders who run the Mujibnagar government, all the brave liberation fighters, 3 million martyrs, 2 lakh tortured mothers and the people of the then Bengal. The Bangalee established an independent state through armed struggle walking the 17th April path. The qualified leadership and strategy of the Mujibnagar government led the liberation war to a successful end Following the guidance of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
Lekhak Bhattacharjee said, "Today is the 50th historic Mujibnagar day. The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was established by formally taking oath in Mujibnagar this morning. The Bengali liberation war followed the direction of the historic Mujibnagar government and directed by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were able to free the motherland from the invaders.
"Bangladesh Chhatra League under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are playing an effective role to make a non-communal, hunger-free and advanced 'Sonar Bangladesh' that the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt,” He added.
