The academic council of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College in Faridpur has declared 18 individuals, including Chhatra League President Mashtura Mosharraf Aishika and General Secretary Imrul Hasan Jeem, undesirable for life on campus. This decision follows an investigation into allegations of physical, mental, and sexual harassment against students.
The council's meeting on Wednesday concluded that Aishika and Jeem would also face the suspension of their Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) certificates. Additionally, 16 other students received various disciplinary actions, including suspensions and expulsions.
Notably, several students from the 26th and 27th batches were affected. Nuzhat Tabassum was declared undesirable for life, while Naeem Al Fuad Khan received a five-year internship suspension and a lifetime hostel expulsion. Other students, such as Saurabh Pal and Imran Hussain, faced similar five-year suspensions.
The actions came after multiple complaints were lodged against the accused students, prompting a six-member investigation committee led by Professor Faruq Ahmed. The committee's findings were thoroughly reviewed by the academic council, which unanimously adopted the recommendations. Prof. Dilruba Jeba, the college principal, confirmed the council's decision and noted that student politics has been banned in the college since an August 24 meeting. Attempts to contact Aishika for comment were unsuccessful, as her phone number was blocked.
