A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was shot dead by human traffickers and drug traders at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Osman Shikdar, 40, son of Mohammad Ali of Kochubunia village under Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila. He was the vice president of Teknaf upazila unit of BCL. He was former president of Sabrang unit of BCL.
Md Nurul Bashar, general secretary of upazila Awami League, confirmed the matter.
The miscreants shot the BCL leader at about 5:30am when he was going to mosque for Fajr prayers. He was attacked in front of his home, said Md Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station.
Locals rushed him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on duty doctors declared him dead, the OC added. The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar hospital for autopsy.
A case was filed in this connection, the OC also said, adding that the attack was possibly a result of the deceased’s enmity with local drug traders.
Local sources said that Osman Shikdar strongly protested a theft incident of an easy-bike that happened on December 27 evening. In that time, he came under ttack by former UP member Mohammad Abdullah’s son Mohammad
Shaker and Mohammad Quashim’s son Kefayet Ullah of Katabonia area. The BCL leader had filed a case
with Teknaf Police Station in connection.
OC Hafizur Rahman said that the accused are listed as drug traders and human traffickers.
They are accused in several cases filed with the police station.
