Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student body of the ruling Awami League, celebrated its 72nd founding anniversary at Ishwardi in Pabna on Sunday by holding various programmes. The programmes include hoisting of national and party flags, placing wreaths at Bangabdhu’s mural at Ishwardi BCL office, colorful procession, discussion, cake cutting and cultural programme.
Although the 72nd founding anniversary of the organisation was on Saturday, the Ishwardi BCL celebrated the day on Sunday as the central Chhatra League arranged a grand rally in Dhaka on that day. Kamrunnahar Sherif, wife of former land minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, inaugurated the BCL’s programmes. She joined the coulourful procession at the upazila. The procession paraded main roads of the upazila town. A large number of BCL men took part in the procession from different parts of the upazila with banner, festoons, placards and effigy of Bangabandhu.
Acting president of Upazila Awami League Nayeb Ali Biswas, General Secretary Moklesur Rahman Mintu, woman affairs secretary Mahjabeen Shirin Piya, President of Upazila Jubo League Shirhan Sharif Tomal, President of Municipal Jubo League Alauddin Biplob, General Secretary Ariful Islam Liton, President of Upazila Chhatra League Rakibul Hasan Rony, General Secretary Sumon Das, President of Municipal Chhatra League Abul Kalam Azad and others attended different events of the BCL.
In her speech, Kamrunnahar Sherif said Bangladesh Chhatra League played vital role in democratic movement in the country. Leaders and activists of the platform should work for the country.
