Bangladesh Chhatra League dismissed its 32 central executive body leaders as allegations raised by few other leaders have been proved against 21 and 11 out of them are willing to leave their representative posts.
A press release issued by Central Chhatra League, signed by acting president Al Nahean Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee said that the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of executive body on Tuesday night.
Among 21, 13 are vice presidents Tanjil Bhuiyan Tanvir, Arefin SiddiqSuzon, Atikur Rahman Khan, Barkat Hossain Hawlader, Shahriar Kabir Biddut, Sadik Khan, Sohani Hasan Tithi, MunmunNahar Boishakhi, Abu Sayed (SUST), Ruhul Amin, Rakib Uddin, Sohel Rana, Ismail Hossain Topu; office secretary Ahsan Habib, religious secrecy Taj Uddin, deputy office secretaries Momin Shahriar and Mahmud Abdullah Bin Munshi; deputy cultural secretaries BM LipiAkter and Afrin Laboni, assistant secretaries Samia Sarker and Rony Chowdhury.
Among 13 leaders who applied to leave their posts, five are vice presidents Aminul Islam Bulbul, SM Toufiqul Hasan Sagor, BM Shahriar Hasan, Hafizur Rahman, SM Hasan Atik; health secretary Shahriar Ferdaus; deputy health secretaries RatulSikder, Shafiul Sajib; deputy publicity secretary SizadArefinShawon; deputy library secretary Rushi Chowdhury; assistant secretary AnjumanaraAnu.
Earlier, some deprived Chhatra League leaders alleged that the new committee has many leaders with criminal records along with non-students, drug abusers, drug dealers, married people, and controversial individuals. Those post-deprived Chhatra League men went on hunger strike for three days between June 28-July 1 after staging demonstrations at the base of Raju Memorial Sculpture for the 33 consecutive days.
Earlier on May 15, Chhatra League revealed a list of 16 ‘controversial leaders’, who were awarded different posts in the committee.
On May 28, the Awami League’s student wing announced that they would vacate 19 controversial posts primarily, in the face of protests.
Following the announcement, on June 18, Bangladesh Chhatra League decided to permanently remove 11 newly selected controversial figures from their posts in the new central committee. However, they were yet to reveal the names.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the Chhatra League leaders to drop the controversial leaders from the central committee.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the central committee on May 13, about eleven months after Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and Golam Rabbani were made president and general secretary, respectively, in the 29th council session of the organization. Following the announcement of its 301-member full-fledged central committee, at least two factional clashes took place between two Chhatra League groups, leaving at least 15 injured.
Removing Shovon and Rabbani, Vice President Al Nahean Khan Joy and Joint General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya have been made acting president and general secretary of the student front of the Awami League respectively on September 14 from a decision of a Central Working Committee meeting of AwamiLeague held at Ganabhaban on that day.
