Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) celebrated its 73rd founding anniversary amid enthusiasm and festivity on Monday.
To observe the anniversary, BCL organised a programme at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in city’s Farmgate. Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina virtually spoke at the programme as the chief guest.
The week-long celebration started with hoisting the national and party flags at party offices at 7:30am and placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhanmondi Road 32 in Dhaka at 8am. Then the leaders and activists of BCL cut a cake at Dhaka University’s (DU) Curzon Hall premises around 9am.
A delegation team that was sent by the central executive committee of this historic organisation paid tribute to the Mazar (shrine) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara.
BCL leaders and activists will distribute winter clothes and health protection materials among poor people at 11am on 6th January in TSC area of University of Dhaka. A voluntary blood donation campaign will also be held on January 8 around 11 am at Bottola in front of the Arts Building on DU campus.
The historic organisation was founded on January 4 in 1948 as per instruction of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Bangladesh Chhatra League played a vital role in the language movement in 1952, during 1954 polls, anti-Ayub movement in 1958, education movement in 1962, six-point movement in 1966, mass upsurge in 1969, in 1970 elections, the great Liberation War in 1971 and in other important movements.
