BCG seizes one kg crystal meth in Cox’s Bazar

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized one kg of crystal meth (ice) from Golarchor area adjacent to Naf River in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

BCG conducted a drive at Shahporirdwip Golar Char area under Subrang union in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on early Wednesday and seized the drugs during the drive.

However, they were not able to get hold of anyone at that time.

Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Khandaker Munif Taqi, confirmed the matter.

He said early on Wednesday morning, Coast Guard personnel ordered a suspicious trawler, that was coming from Myanmar, to stop in the Naf River estuary, situated between Golar Char in Shah Porir Island area and Saint Martin’s Island. Sensing their presence, the traffickers sped up the trawler towards Golar Char. As the trawler approached the shore, two individuals jumped off and escaped. Later, the Coast Guard seized the abandoned trawler. During a search of the vessel, they recovered a packet wrapped in plastic. Upon opening the packet, they found one kilogram of crystal meth, commonly known as ‘ice.’

The market value of the recovered drugs is approximately Tk 5 crore. The drugs were kept at Teknaf Police Station, and legal action was taken in connection with the incident, said Lt Colonel Khandaker Munif Taqi.
