Leg-spinners are currently dominating world cricket. Though the subcontinent cricket nations are quite advance in producing leg-spinners, Bangladesh has been waiting for a world class leg-spinner for a long time.
The game development committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are working hard on this issue.
BCB has already selected 80 leg-spinners in their camp from across the country. The camp will run led by Pakistan leg spinner Shahed Mehmood. The development committee finalized the schedule for May 2 and 3 to start the camp.
BCB development committee expect to have talented from this camp, though it is still just yet to begin.
Meanwhile, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, Chairman of the Game Development Committee confirmed about their programme of producing leg-spinners.
“Definitely, we have a special attention and we are concerns about the shortage of leg-spinners. The board has appointed Shahed Mehmood as a leg spin coach. By this time, we have already completed a talent hunt programme pick leg spinners from across the country and gathered 80 bowlers. Shahed has traveled all over the country. He worked at Rangpur, Faridpur and Rajshahi and brought out the talents,” said the former national team’s captain Sujon.
“Now we are going to start the first stage of the camp with 80 bowlers in two groups on May 2 and 3. We will select 20 from 80 spinners from the training camp,” Sujan added.
“Earlier there was a lack of proper care, now I am very happy that we are concentrating on that with appointing a leg-spinner coach. It’s positive that Mushtaq Ahmed joined with us in the national team. I think if he would stay for a long time, we will get quality leg-spinners in near future,” Sujan revealed.
