After August 5 Naimur Rahman Durjoy was the first among the elected directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to resign. Another former captain, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, resigned a few days after the debut captain and director of Bangladesh in Tests. Along with two former captains, former cricketer Enayet Hossain Siraj also resigned. However, Siraj's resignation was not officially announced by BCB, nor was it disclosed by Siraj himself.
BCB has 25 directors. Barisal division director Alamgir Alo passed away a few months ago. BCB has been running its activities with less than one director. After the reshuffle on August 5, the number of directors has now reduced to 21 as three resigned.
Five (two emergency) board meetings have already been held since Farooq Ahmed became BCB president on August 21. The number of directors who did not participate in any of these is 11. They are Nazmul Hasan Papon, Ismail Haider Mallick, Tanveer Ahmed Tito, Manzoor Quader, Najeeb Ahmed, AJM Nasir, Shafiul Islam Chowdhury Nadel, Gazi Ghulam Mortaza, Obaid Nizam, Sheikh Sohail and Anwarul Karim Chowdhury. According to the constitution of BCB, if three consecutive meetings are absent, the board of directors has the authority to take necessary steps to declare the director vacant. In today's meeting, these 11 director posts are to be announced as vacant.
Many directors did not attend three consecutive BCB meetings before August 5. At that time BCB Board of Directors did not take any action on this. Currently Active Director Kazi Inam Ahmed was absent for five consecutive meetings from June 2022 to October 2. Manzoor Quader, Sheikh Sohail and AJM Nasir missed more than three consecutive meetings.
Meanwhile, with three resignations, 11 vacancies and one death, the BCB director vacancy will rise to 15. There are only 10 active directors. According to the constitution of BCB, the presence of one third of the board of directors is required for quorum. A 25-member board of directors is constituted by the presence of 9 members. As a result, Farooq Ahmed's ten-member board is not hindered in taking and implementing various decisions.
According to the constitution, if the post of director becomes vacant after the election, the board of directors will take necessary steps to fill the vacancy. In today's meeting, apart from announcing the vacancy, steps are also to be taken to fill the vacancy.
