Jalal Yunus, chairman of the technical committee of the tournament, eliminated the uncertainty over the timely launch of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He said that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have done lot of work behind the scenes amid the uncertainty over the BPL launch date.

Jalal Yunus also the board’s director and organizer of the BCB’s media committee said on Monday that they have gone a long way in organizing this year’s domestic Twenty20 tournament without any franchisees saying, “I have already said that the tournament will start on the scheduled date, which is December 6.

For this, various procedures have started on the cricket board. Some paperwork is going on at the moment. If that finishes, we will soon sit to select the sponsors for the respective teams.”

Earlier, President of the Board Nazmul Hasan Papon said that this year’s BPL will be specially organized to mark the 100-year birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The details of the tournament were not briefed to the media by BCB till date. The announcement of the special BPL was the result of disagreement over new contracts with previous franchisees.

BPL Governing Council acting chairman Sheikh Sohel and member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick are both out of the

country.

In which format will this year’s BPL carry out, what will be the names of the teams, the details of the player draft of domestic and foreign players are unknown to the media, with the tourney being just two months away.

What will happen to those foreign cricketers who have already contracted with the canceled franchise? It was also not cleared by the BCB.

However, Jalal Yunus said they have progressed a lot with these sort of contractual issues. “The format will remain the same as before. Of the four foreign players that were allowed in each team’s starting lineup remains the same this term. If the franchisee has a contract with a player before and if they are free, then we can offer them whether they will participate.”

When asked whether from now BCB are willing to do Bangabandhu BPL every year, Yunus cleared that this special edition is organised only for this year only.

"We have already said that this is the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League. This is a special edition and this edition will not happen next time. When we gave the EOI, we also mentioned that it was only for one time.”
