Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, Member of Parliament for Habiganj-4 constituency, voiced concerns over the administration's response to threats on his life, criticising delays in action despite reports of hired killers targeting him.

Suman lodged a complaint with the Sherebangla Nagar police station in Dhaka on Saturday after receiving information about the alleged plot involving a group of 4-5 contract killers.

Speaking at the courthouse on Sunday, Suman elaborated on the threats and questioned the effectiveness of the state apparatus in ensuring his safety.

"The OC of my local police station informed me two days ago about the threat, but immediate action was not taken by the SP as expected," Suman stated. "This delay prompted me to file a general diary myself the next day."

Expressing disappointment in the police response, Suman recounted discussions with higher authorities, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), who shared his concerns regarding the delayed official response.

"My question remains: Does the state apparatus genuinely want me to remain alive?" Suman queried, reflecting on the safety of his family and the implications of the threats he faces.

Despite the risks, Suman remained steadfast in his commitment to his work, citing his daughter's concern and his resolve to continue fighting corruption and injustice.

"I do not seek personal security. I seek a secure environment for all. Let the authorities fulfil their duty," Suman emphasised. "I will continue my work without fear, even if it means sacrificing my life for the unfinished tasks."

Suman concluded with a resolute call for authorities to uphold their responsibilities, emphasising the need for a safe environment where public servants can perform their duties without fear or intimidation.
