Barishal Additional Superintendent of Police Alep Uddin has been shown arrested in a murder case filed with Dhaka’s Jatrabari Police Station related to the student-public movement. The court has granted a two-day remand for questioning.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sharifur Rahman issued the order on Thursday after Jatrabari police requested a five-day remand.
The remand petition stated that Barishal Detective Branch (DB) police arrested him from the Barishal metropolitan area last Wednesday night on orders from higher authorities.
Family members alleged that Alep Uddin was taken from the Barishal Range DIG's office at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Since then, the family had no information about his whereabouts.
Alep Uddin’s wife, Wafa Nusrat, alleged on Wednesday night that her husband had called her on Tuesday and informed her that Barishal DB had taken him. According to her knowledge, Alep Uddin had no cases against him. She expressed her concern, saying that over 24 hours had passed, and the family was increasingly anxious.
Alep Uddin is an officer from the 31st BCS Police batch. His family stated that during the student-public movement, he was serving in the police's Special Branch (SB).
