Bangladeshi student wins Int’l arithmetic competition

Sharif Adibur Rahman , a class nine student of European Standard School (ESS) in the city’s Dhanmondi area, has become the champion at the Aloha Mental Arithmetic International Competition-2019 in China.

The competition was held at Marco Polo Hotel, Foshan in China on July 20, said a press release. Previously, Adib became the grand champion at the International Arithmetic Competition of 2018 held in Moscow of Russia.

He also achieved awards in 2017, 2016 and 2015 in the competitions held in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, Yogyakarta of Indonesia and Manila of the Philippines respectively. Nearly 50,000 students from 40 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Australia, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Mexico, Ecuador, Sweden, Uzbekistan and Russia took part in those competitions.

Sharif Adibur Rahman is the second son of freedom fighter and former district judge Sharif Lutfor Rahman and poet Nayema Khanum and grandson of late Prof ANM Abdul Mannan Khan, ex-chairman of Department of Arabic, Dhaka University.
