Kousik Ahamed, a student from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, has embarked on the "Icebreaker of Knowledge" expedition.
Aboard the nuclear icebreaker ‘50 Let Pobedy,’ Kousik and 70 international participants set sail from Murmansk, Russia, on August 13, with the journey lasting until August 22. This expedition marks the 65th anniversary of the nuclear icebreaker fleet. Expressing his excitement, Kousik said, “This expedition offers a unique opportunity to explore the Arctic and understand its climate and engineering marvels. I look forward to witnessing polar bears, the Northern Lights, and learning about the impacts of climate change.”
Captain Ruslan Sasov highlighted the voyage’s significance, noting, “We’ll cover 1,200 miles to the North Pole, providing participants a rare glimpse of the Arctic as seen by our crew.”
Participants will explore the icebreaker's functions, experience Arctic nature, and send postcards from the northernmost post office. The expedition also features lectures and a documentary series.
According to Leonid Irlitsa, DG of Atomflot, the project aims to promote science and nuclear technology, nurturing young talent from around the world.
