Bangladeshi shot dead along Thakurgaon border

A Bangladeshi citizen was shot to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Thakurgaon border early on Thursday. The incident took place nearby Pillar No. 379 of Chochpara border area at Baliadangi upazila in the district.

The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin, 37, son of Mofiz Uddin of Bhangbari village under Bachor union at Ranisankail upazia. Lt Col Sahidul Islam, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) battalion 50, confirmed the matter.

Quoting the victim’s family, the BGB official said that Joynal had been living at his in-law’s house in India for ten years and was also a Indian ration card holder. A BSF patrol team shot him dead when he was detected trying to cross the border from India. They also took away his body from the spot. 

A protest letter was sent to BSF. Details will be known after a flag meeting, he added. Aminul Islam, Chairman of Boropalashbari Union Parishad of Baliadangi upazila, said that Joynal Abedin’s father-in-law’s house at Panjipara village in India.
