In a proud moment for Bangladesh, the film "Nirvana," directed by Asif Islam, finalized the Special Jury Award at the prestigious 46th Moscow International Film Festival. This triumph echoes the success of Juboraj Shamim's "Adim," which previously bagged the Silver Saint George Award and the Netpack Jury Award at the 44th edition of the same festival.
The recent festival, spanning eight days, wrapped up on Friday, April 26, with a grand closing ceremony held in Moscow. Among the highlights were the announcement of winners in categories such as best film, best producer, and best actors. Moreover, Russian filmmaker Sergei Ursulak was duly honored for his remarkable contributions to cinema this year.
Among other notable awards, the Best Film Award went to the collaborative production "Shame," a joint effort between Mexico and Qatar. Iranian director Nahid Azizi was recognized with the Best Director Award for her work in "Cold Sign," while Juan Ramón López received the Best Actor Award for his standout performance in "Shame."
Bangladeshi cinema has been steadily making its mark on the global stage, with "Adim" competing in the 44th edition and Nurul Alam Atique's "Peyarar Subash" being showcased at the 45th edition of the Moscow International Film Festival. Noteworthy mentions also include Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's "Doob" and "Saturday Afternoon," as well as Jasim Ahmed's productions and Indranil Roy's directorial venture "Mayar Jonjal."
The recognition garnered by "Nirvana" underscores the growing influence and talent within the Bangladeshi film industry, further cementing its place on the international cinematic landscape.
