A Bangladeshi cattle trader was picked up by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the southern Banshjani border in Kurigram’s Bhurungamari on Sunday night.
The detainee was identified as Zahurul Islam, 50, son of late Nurul Islam of Dakshin Banshjani
village in Pathardubi union of the upazila.
According to sources, a group of cattle smugglers entered India through the southern Banshajani border of Bhurungamari upazila.
At that time, members of the patrol team of Dighaltari BSF camp under Dinhata police station in Cooch Behar district of India chased them and arrested Zahurul.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Jamal Hossain, Director of Kurigram 22 BGB Battalion, confirmed the arrest of the Bangladeshi cattle trader at the hands of the BSF.
He said, “Zahurul was not arrested from inside Bangladesh. When he entered India to smuggle cows, we came to know that he was detained from there”.
