Bangladesh win only 12 matches so far in WC

Cricket became very popular in Bangladesh after the tigers qualified in the World Cup held in England in 1999. Tigers played their first match against New Zealand at County Ground, Chemlsford, England on May 17, 1999. Bangladesh played 39 matches so far in the World Cup from 1999 to 2023. They won 12 matches and lost 25 and two matches abandoned due to rain.   

Bangladesh won two outings in 1999 World Cup. Tigers enjoy their first match in World Cup against Scotland by 22 runs at Grange Cricket Club, Raeburn Place, Edinburgh in the same year. The men in Red and Green won over mighty Pakistan that year. Bangladesh won by 62 runs. Bangladesh managed two wins and lost to three matches. They lost to New Zealand, West Indies and Australia. 

The saddest story of Bangladesh Cricket is in the 2003 World Cup. Khaled Mashud Pilot was the captain at that time. His team mates failed to win a single match in the tournament. They lost five matches and one was washed away in Group B. 

Bangladesh won two games and lost one in Group B in 2007. Tigers won against India by five wickets. They beat Bermuda by seven wickets and lost to Sri Lanka by 198 runs.Tigers reached super eight stage in the tournament. Bangladesh won only one outings and lost six in super eight. They won against South Africa. They also won three matches and lost three in 2011. The Red and Green became fifth in Group B. 

The greatest achievement of Bangladesh Cricket is in 2015 World Cup. Tigers reached quarter finals and lost to India by 109 runs. Tigers won three matches and lost two outings in the tournament. 

Bangladesh played nine matches is in 2019 World Cup. Tigers performance was very poor quality, lost five matches and won three out of eight. One match was abandoned. Tiger s collected only seven points and became eighth out of 10 teams. 

In 2023 Shakib al Hasan teams played three matches so far. They won against Afghanistan by six wickets but defeated to defending Champions England and runners up New Zealand.
