With the joint efforts of all communities, the country will move forward and reach its dream address, said Information and Broadcasting Minister as well as the Joint General Secretary of the Awami League Dr Hasan Mahmud.
At the same time, he said, some people want to hit the altar of communal harmony, they have to resist collectively for the welfare of the country and the people.
He said this while coming to greet the members of Hindu community on the occasion of Mahasaptami of Durga Puja on the premises of Krishibid Institute in the capital, organized by Sanatan Samaj Kalyan Sangha on Tuesday evening.
Sameer Chanda, President of the Organising Committee and President of Bangladesh Krishak League, Swapan Kumar Majumder, General Secretary of Sanatan Sangha, other priests and guests were present on the occasion.
The minister of information said, “Religion was paramount in the Pakistani state system but, the culture of traditional Bengal is a big identity as a person irrespective of race or religion.”
“Therefore, soon after the creation of Pakistan, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realized that our liberation was not possible in the Pakistani state system based on religion. The father of the nation has established an independent state of Bangladesh with a non-communal spirit”, he added.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said there is no place for communal evil in independent Bangladesh under the red-green flag won by the combined sacrifice of people of all religions under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu.
“We have to unite against those who want to hurt the altar of secularism. The government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, believes that ‘religion belongs to everyone, festival belongs to everyone’. Therefore, Bangladesh today is a unique example of communal harmony in the world”, he added. Agriculturist Sameer Chanda said people of all religions coexist in Bangladesh, like flowers in a garden, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. May this trend continue, that is our prayer to Goddess Durga.
