Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud on Saturday said if the current political stability in the country continues in the future, Bangladesh will become a upper middle income country even before 2031 and a developed one by 2041.
Minister said Bangladesh had set the target of becoming a middle-income country in 2021, the country has reached its desired goal two years ago under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister. In the same vein, Bangladesh will be an upper middle-income country before 2031. Therefore, the country needs to maintain the current political stability.
Hasan Mahmud made this remark at the inaugural ceremony of Mujib Corner and Directors Lounge at FBCCI office and also the inauguration of a Covid awareness song in Motijheel on Saturday afternoon.
FBCCI’s Mujib Corner is designed with rare still photographs of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a number of books on his biography, political struggle and development philosophy. A lounge for FBCCI directors has also been set up next to Mujib Corner.
The Minister hoped that the business community of this country would contribute more in building the country by embracing the spirit of Bangabandhu.
"Now the per capita income of this country is over two and a half thousand dollars. The country ranks 92nd in the world in terms of area, but in terms of PPP, Bangladesh stands 29th and 31st largest economy in terms of GDP. According to the forecasts of various international research institutes, Bangladesh is going to become the 24th economy in the world soon", he added.
Earlier, FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin addressed the occasion and called for reforms in the education system to address the shortage of skilled manpower in the industry.
He said the private sector has always been an ally of the government in this advancement. The businessmen have always tried their best to achieve the development goals that the Prime Minister has set before the nation and will continue to do so in the future.
Speaking on the occasion, FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury said that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, had emphasized on developing political and trade relations with different countries during his rule of three years and seven months.
The Senior Vice President reiterated the demand made at the meeting of the Council of Chambers Presidents held on January 22, he urged prime minister to give the FBCCI President the same status as the Minister of State.
