Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said that Bangladesh was keen to import the ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine against Covid-19 from Russia “as soon as possible”.
The ministry of health is working in this regard, he said during a farewell meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Ignatov.
Dr. Momen said if allowed, Bangladeshi companies would be able to jointly produce vaccines with Russia.
He sought cooperation from the outgoing ambassador in importing vaccines from Russia.
The foreign minister also expressed satisfaction over the quality of works of the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
He praised Russian experts and workers in this regard, the foreign ministry said.
The foreign minister said Russia is a tested friend of Bangladesh.
He recalled Russia's cooperation during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 and thanked the Russian government and people for their cooperation.
Dr. Momen expressed gratitude to the Russian government for Russia's contribution to Bangladesh's development.
The Russian Ambassador thanked the Foreign Minister for his cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
The ambassador will leave Dhaka for Russia on June 8.
