The inaugural ceremony of the main activities of ‘Exercise Tiger Lightning-3 (2022)’, a bilateral exercise on peace assistance activities was held at Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) in Rajendrapur Cantonment on Sunday.
According to the ISPR, the military exercise was organised jointly by the Bangladesh Army and the United States Army Pacific Command (USARPAC). Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan inaugurated the function as the chief guest.
In the inaugural function, Commandant of BIPOST Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman welcomed the guests and participants of the exercise and gave an address of welcome.
Major General Michael E Stencel, Adjutant General of Oregon National Guard, also spoke on behalf of the US Pacific Army Command (USARPAC) as the special guest at the event.
At the inaugural programme, Lt Gen Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan said that Exercise Tiger Lightning would make an effective contribution to further strengthening the existing relationship between the Bangladesh Army and the United States Army.
This is definitely a good area to learn from real experience. Bangladesh Armed Forces has a rich history of conducting successful operations in hostile environment of UN peacekeeping missions, he further said.
On the other hand, the United States Armed Forces has extensive experience working successfully around the world in a variety of security situations.
In this case, the armies of both the countries will be benefited by exchanging experiences with each other.
He also thanked BIPOST and all concerned, including the United States Army Pacific Command and the Oregon National Guard, for planning the exercise and wished it overall success.
It is mentionable that Exercise Tiger Lightning-3 is being held from March 06 to March 31 at BIPSOT in Rajendrapur Cantonment.
The exercise is aimed at developing participants’ skills in assessing the situation in an adverse security environment, formulating effective plans and taking quick measures to deal with emergencies.
Apart from this, the exercise also initiated an exchange of knowledge and experience between experts from both the countries on Combat
Life Saving, Counter IED, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA), Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) etc.
Intensive cooperation exists between Bangladesh and the United States on regional and global security issues, counter-terrorism, disaster management and humanitarian assistance.
Bangladesh is committed to any global threat, including natural disasters, and has always worked with other partners, including the United States.
In this case, bilateral and multilateral practices play a significant role in combining skills and knowledge and exchanging experiences. With that goal in mind, Tiger Lightning 1 and 2 were organized in the United States in 2017 and 2021, and the third exercise in this series is being held in Bangladesh.
