Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday said the country has to attain growth at least at a rate of 8 to 10 percent for emerging as a developed country by the year 2041 for which the nation is advancing in a planning way.
Minister said quality of products must have to improve, as we have to face some challenges in the competitive global trade from the year 2026. We will no more enjoy the facilitites as a LDC state, so we must prepare ourselves to face the challenges ahead.
Commerce Minister made the remarks while addressing 6th meeting of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) at a city hotel.
“We have no alternative to move forward in the world trade and we will have facilitate trade and must enhance the facilities for business. We need to introduce one stop service for transit and export and import through implementing the National Single Window (NSW). There have no alternative to modernize trade related office at the frontiers and that’s why if needed we shall have to bring reform in the existing trade policy and laws”, Minister added.
Commerce Secretary, Tapan Kanti Ghosh joined the meeting virtually while ERD Secretary, Sharifa Khan, Chairman of Trade and Tariff Commission, Mahfuja Akhter, CEO of Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute (BFTI), Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin, EPB Vice Chairman, AHM Ahsan, FBCCI President, Jashim Uddin, also spoke among others on the occasion.
The NTFC meeting usually held one a year. The 6th meeting also discussed increasing production of agriculture products and it’s processing, easing and speedy export-import works at different ports, implementing single window, quick unloading of imported goods, enhancing capacity at sea ports, land ports and air ports, easing connectivity, modernizing railways for goods transportation, increasing export oriented products etc.
