Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh Masud Bin Momen said that all the BRICS leaders must unanimously agree for the extension of the BRICS through adopting a procedure or rules to be followed for new members to be added.
The Foreign Affairs Secretary came up with this remark while talking to the Bangladesh Post on Wednesday on the expansion of the expansion of the BRICS at Johannesburg in South Africa
“All the BRICS leaders must unanimously agree for expansion. The leaders may agree for expansion through adopting a procedure or rules to be followed for new members to be added. We have come to know that BRICS leaders are internally discussing the criteria to be set for expansion of the BRICS", he said.
He also said that Bangladesh is already a member of BRICS bank, known as the New Development Bank (NDB), which was established by BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in 2015, have admitted Bangladesh as a new member. Therefore, in a sense Bangladesh is already associated with BRICS.
"That is why Bangladesh stands one step ahead in getting BRICS membership", said the Foreign Secretary.
