Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen signed a MOU with Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) under the project Education Above All Foundation during the sideline event of the UNLDC5 conference in Doha, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
The signing of the MoU is considered a 'milestone' to access finance to Qatar development fund.
The MoU was signed in a hall of the Qatar National Conference Center by Director General of QFFD Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Kuwari.
According to the deal, the government of the State of Qatar will channel fund through QFFD to support the education sector in Bangladesh through expanding opportunities for 6.5 lac out of school children at primary level with a total amount of 12.68 million USD. The project to this end would be conducted by the Ministry of Primary & Mass Education.
It may be noted that Education Above All is an outreach program conducted in some countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia under the QFFD having an annual budget of 600 million dollars. The Foreign Minister was delegated to sign the contract on behalf of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
The Govt of Qatar aims to provide this assistance to the LDCs to fullfil their SDGs- 2030 as part of its commitment to international cooperation under the Qatar national vision 2030.
Qatar Charity, another humanitarian organization, conducts some humanitarian assistance and relief support to the Rohinga and marginalized people on various places in Bangladesh.
