The winners of the Bangladesh Press Photo Contest 2024 were announced on June 3, with Quddus Alam of Focus Bangla winning the prestigious Photo of the Year Award. His photograph shows three women working at a construction site.
Md Sazid Hossain from The Daily Prothom Alo won the Politics category with a powerful photo of police and army confronting a mob during a student protest. Nayem Ali from The Business Standard received an honorable mention for capturing a student waving the Palestinian flag at a cricket match screening.
In the Public Interest Journalism category, Syed Mahamudur Rahman from Dainik Bangla won with his photo of a girl atop an electrical pole. Abdul Goni from Daily Ittefaq earned an honorable mention for his picture of firefighters after a long effort to put out a fire.
Kazi Golam Kuddus Helal from FIAP won in the Arts, Culture, and Sports category with a photo of Buddhist monks meditating in a forest. Piyas Biswas from Newsbangla24 received an honorable mention for a picture of a bullfight.
The Photo of the Year winner received a prize of BDT 100,000, an honorary plaque, a certificate, and an annual book edition. Each category winner received BDT 50,000, an honorary plaque, a certificate, and an annual book edition. Honorable mentions received BDT 10,000 and other prizes.
The award ceremony date will be announced soon, with an exhibition of selected photographs in June 2024 at Drik Gallery in Dhaka and a virtual exhibition online. This contest celebrates the brave and talented photographers of Bangladesh, highlighting their important contributions to storytelling through images.
