Lawmakers Sunday said Bangladesh is progressing ahead and now stands 35th position in ranking among the developing countries in the world.
Taking part in the discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech in the JatiyaSangsad, they highlighted different development activities in various sectors including communication, socio-economic, education, youth and sports, information and communication technology (ICT) under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The President in his 168-page speech on January 5 last, on the first day of the maiden session in 2023 of the 11th parliament, focused on the country’s massive successes in different sectors.
Participating in the discussion, treasury bench lawmaker Shafiqur Rahman of Chandpur-4 said, “Bangladesh is now progressing with the leadership of the present government and now secured 35th position among the developing countries in the world.”
Subsequently, the country will turn into a higher growth achieving one due to the time befitting leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.
Citing the development activities in various sectors, Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan of Lakhipur-2 said the government led by Sheikh Hasina has ensured electricity in every house throughout the country, but BNP had constructed pillars instead of power distribution during their regime.
Even more than 7.50 lakh landless people got houses under the Asrayan project, which was a remarkable development programme of the government.
Earlier, the chief whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury came up with a proposal for holding discussion on thanksgiving motion of the President’s speech in the House and then it was seconded by treasury bench lawmaker ShahiduzzamanSarker.
About the development of the country, Anwarul Abedin Khan of Mymensingh-9 said, “Bangladesh has achieved remarkable success to improving maternity health as incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps, including introducing maternity allowances, for the welfare of the women.”
The lawmakers also thanked the President for giving a timely speech highlighting the success stories of the government and guiding the nation towards peace, progress and prosperity.
Earlier, they paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his contributions and struggles to establish the independent Bangladesh.
