Bangladesh and the Netherlands have faced each other in 2 matches in ODI. Out of these two games, Bangladesh has won one, whereas the Netherlands have come out victorious on one occasion.
Both team will clash in the 28th ICC World Cup 2023 match on Saturday in Kolkata. Bangladesh will enter their field after their defeat against South Africa in their previous match. They are in the eighth position in the World Cup 2023 points table after losing four games back-to-back. Although they started with a win against Afghanistan, their performance deteriorated later.
Abdur Razzak shone with the ball and Imrul Kayes scored an imperious fifty to ensure Bangladesh won by 6 wickets with more than 8 overs to spare in a league game in the 2011 World Cup. Netherlands didn't bat their quota of 50 overs and were bundled out for 160 in the 47th over. Ryan Ten Doechate again tried to save the blushes but his 53 was not sufficient as they could only muster 160. In reply Tamim Iqbal fell early but his partner Kayes batted superbly. He found an able ally in Junaid Siddique who scored 35 batting at number 3. Post his dismissal, Nafees scored 37 and Bangladesh didn't lose much sweat in tracking down 161. This was Netherlands' fifth loss in the 2011 tourney.
On the other hand, the Dutch won by six wickets in Glasgow in 2010. Netherlands coach Ryan Cook worked as fielding coach with Bangladesh during the 2019 World Cup and Dutch skipper Scott Edwards hopes that could work in the team's favour.
"It's definitely a help for us, especially in terms of that sort of analyst side," said Edwards on Friday.
"He worked for a long time with the Bangladesh team and knows a lot of these guys individually."
However, he added: "There's some new players (in the Bangladesh squad), but we'll take what information we can from him and try to apply that into the game. Execution will be the key."
