Bangladesh-Nepal people-to-people ties underscored

Book launching ceremony held at Nepal embassy

Nepal Ambassador in Dhaka Ghanshyam Bhandari has stressed on the people-to-people relations, particularly at the youth level between Bangladesh and Nepal.

He said this at a prize distribution and book launching ceremony jointly organized by the embassy of Nepal and the Bangladesh-Nepal Friendship Society (BNFS) on Saturday at the Nepal Embassy.

He also recalled the role of the youths of both counties in different historical moments, particularly of Bangladeshi youths in the liberation war and in the democratic movements. Ghanshyam also highlighted insights into the relationship between Nepal and Bangladesh.

The book titled "From Himalayas to Bay of Bengal: Chronicles of Nepal-Bangladesh Friendship" was launched at the programme. It’s a compilation of twenty outstanding essays exploring diverse aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh relations, selected from the 'Essay Writing Competition' held in October November 2023.

Vice- chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University Sharfuddin Ahmed delivered his speech as the chief guest and the President of BNFS Lion Moshiur Ahmed also delivered his speech as special guest with Ambassador of Nepal Ghanshyam Bhandariin the chair. 

Vice- Chancellor Sharfuddin Ahmed said Bangladesh and Nepal can exchange more students from the educational institutions as the two countries have a big similarity in many aspects.

Mentioning the successful role of a physician who passed from Bangladesh medical colleges, he said this role will encourage more students of Nepal to take the opportunity of studying in Bangladesh in a homely environment

He also highlighted the cultural and linguistic similarities between Nepal and Bangladesh. 

General Secretary of BNFS Salahuddin Kutu also highlighted the importance of youth engagement in promoting bilateral relations.

Aanika Hasan from BRAC University, Al Rabby Siemens from Jahangirnagar University, and  Maxim Gorky Samya from North South University stood  first, second, and third at the essay competition respectively.

The essay competition received an overwhelming response with 306 essays submitted by the students from 84 public and private universities in Bangladesh. 

An eminent panel of judges meticulously evaluated the essays.

The rest of the seventeen winners are - Unnat Hamal Sapkot,  Umme Tanjila, Shipu Debnath,  Md Mahabub Alam, Eftikhar Jaman, Rajiur Rahman Raj, Zuhaer Ahnaf Zabir, G.M. Sifat Iqbal, Syed Modassir Zafar, Ishwor Dhungana, Alamgir Hossain, MM Shanjid Islam, Sayere Nazabi Sayem,  Mahmudur Rahman, Akash Islam, Jahid Hasan Rana.
