Defending champions Bangladesh will need one point to reach into the last four in the ongoing SAFF Women Football Championship when they will take on India today.
The high voltage encounter will take place at Dashrath Rangasala Stadium, Kathmandu, Nepal at 6 pm (BST).
A win or draw against the tournament hot favorites India would be enough for progression but a defeat would mean that goal average will be counted to decide the semifinalists. In this respect if Bangladesh would lose the match, will have to concede less than three goals to manage the semifinal berth.
The reigning champions Bangladesh played an unexpected draw (1-1) in their opener against Pakistan on Sunday last that made the road for them tougher to go into the last four.
Bangladesh, who did never suffer defeat against Pakistan in the SAFF, this time narrowly escaped the defeat and made it difficult to go semifinal.
Pakistan's 5-2 loss to five-time champions India meant something advantage for Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh faced India in the SAFF Championship for seven times they could win only one match, drew one and lost rest five matches.
Bangladesh won their only match against India in the SAFF Women Football Championship by 3-0 in 2022 at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu, Nepal on September 13. Forward Sirat Jahan Shopna scored two goals while Krishna Rani Sarkar netted one.
Bangladesh played goalless draw against India at group stage in the 2016 SAFf Championship at Kanchenjunga Stadium, Siliguri on December 31, when the final of the tournament was held on januray 4, 2017. Bangladesh suffered shocking 3-1 defeat in the final at the same ground in Siliguri, India.
Meanwhile, the biggest defeat of women in Red-Green was 6-0 at Cox’s Bazar Stadium, on December 17, 2010. In 2012 India won by 3-0 at Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club Grounds, Colombo, Sri Lanka on September 7, 2012, Bangladesh third defeat to India in the SAFF tournament was by 5-1 at Jinnah Sports Stadium, Islamabad, Pakistan on November 15, 2014.
Bangladesh suffered another big defeat to Idnia in the semifinal of the SAFF Championship in 2019 by 4-0 at Sahid Rangasala Satdium, Nepal.
