The regulatory body for medical practitioners in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), has been reconstituted. This information was shared in a notification from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on October 20.
The first meeting of the reconstituted BMDC took place on October 23. During this meeting, council members elected a president, vice president, and treasurer, and formed various committees in accordance with the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, 2010. Professor Saiful Islam, a former professor of Pediatric Surgery at BSMMU, was elected as the president.
Following the committee formation, at 3 pm, the BMDC council members met with Health Adviser Noorjahan Begum at the Ministry of Health.
During the meeting, the health adviser emphasized the need for the council to expedite the resolution of complaints regarding medical services provided by the BMDC.
Additionally, the health adviser urged BMDC members to take necessary measures to maintain the quality of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, ensuring that the public receives high-standard healthcare services.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mohammad Sarwar Bari, Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division, Acting Director General of the DGHS Professor Dr. Abu Jafar, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Syedur Rahman, and other officials from the Ministry of Health, as well as members of the reconstituted council.
